Physical Therapy serving the Los Angeles Area

PT for Orthopedic Conditions during Pregnancy

Changes occurring to a woman’s body during the childbearing year challenge the stability and mobility of a woman’s physical structure. The changes may create pain and dysfunctions in the joints and muscles throughout the body, including the spine, pelvis, trunk, jaw, rib-cage, hips, knees, and wrists. Diagnoses we treat during pregnancy include carpal tunnel, low back pain with or without radiculopathy or sciatica, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, plantar fasciitis, patellofemoral dysfunction or chondromalacia, pubic symphysis dysfunction or osteitis pubis, and temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ pain).

Prenatal or Postpartum Massage

Our motto is: healthy mama, healthy baby. It is common to put baby first during the childbearing years, however, this can lead to chronic conditions later in life. Tailored to your specific aches and pains, we have massage therapists that can help during pregnancy and thereafter.

Prenatal Rehabilitative Pilates and yoga-based exercise It’s important to stay active before, during, and after pregnancy. We utilize reformers and mat-based exercises to maintain optimum health for our mothers and mothers-to-be.

Prenatal and Postpartum Aquatic Therapy

In the pool, there is freedom to move without the effect of gravity. Our salt pools give pregnant patients an excellent environment to exercise under the supervision of a therapist.

Orthopedic dysfunctions during pregnancy can persist into the postpartum period as it takes months for pregnancy hormones to leave the body.

In addition, there are certain areas of weakness and muscle imbalance after carrying a child in your body for nine months. For each patient, we create a personalized aquatic exercise program.

Diastasis Recti Evaluation and Management

Diastasis Recti, or separation of the abdominal muscles, is often missed after pregnancy and can quickly get worse after subsequent pregnancies, as well as contribute to pain and dysfunction in the low back and pelvic floor.

We evaluate all our postpartum patients for Diastasis Recti and treat it utilizing manual techniques, as well as specific and safe exercises to increase strength and force closure of the abdominal muscles.
